Great Pair of Rare Very Early CIVIL WAR Enlisted Man's Shoulder Scales, Cavalry
Matched Pair of Rare Antique Civil War Enlisted Man's Brass Shoulder Scales. DESCRIPTION: Particularly nice matched pair of original antique CIVIL WAR ENLISTED MAN'S BRASS SHOULDER SCALES. Intended for uniform decoration as well as the practical function of protecting the shoulders against downward saber blows. Many pieces of these are dug/excavated in Civil War camps and battlefield, indicating that they were not popular and did not last. Also, VERY FEW PHOTOS OF CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS ARE SHOWN WEARING THEM, so they were discontinued as an added expense and hassle early in the war.
IN ANY EVENT, THESE ARE RARELY FOUND, IN SUCH NICE COMPLETE, ORIGINAL CONDITION, AND AS A MATCHING PAIR. This pair is nicely made, as shown, and very intricately made as shown on the backs. Probably were a very expensive uniform decoration. This pair may even be pre-war as part of a standard pre-war US uniform.
Dimensions appear standard and can be indicated by the dollar bill in the photos. Both match and are in excellent condition. Would look great as part of any Civil War uniform or military display or collection.
Also would be perfect to complete any Civil War uniform coat jacket.
