This surgical knife is the product of Henry Disston and his Brother Charles, out of a Small Philadelphia Shop that eventually exploded. They were only in this shop for a few short years. The handle dates this to early in that shops life. That makes this item incredibly rare, and likely made by Henry or Charles themselves. One of them is mislabeled.

The American Civil War Museum at Appomattox confirms that this is indeed a surgical saw, and that Henry and Charles produced a great deal of surgeons tools during the war. I cannot say for certain that this item saw combat, but I can say that it's still razor sharp over 100 years later, and beautiful.
