Offered is an original, historic, & collectible old newspaper: NEW YORK TRIBUNE, Sept. Battle of Antietam w/ map Sharpsburg, Maryland Bloodiest single-day battle. The entire front page is taken up with excellent reporting on the Battle of Antietam. 17, was the bloodiest day of fighting of the entire war. Both sides lost over 10,000 men in killed & wounded.

Though the result was essentially a draw, Lee's invasion of the North is halted & the rebels pull back into Virginia. Certainly the prime feature of the front page is the very large map headed: " THE LOCALITY OF THE STRUGGLE ". Among the first column heads are: "THE WAR FOR THE UNION" The Great Battles in Maryland" "Desperate & Terrific Encounters" "The Whole Rebel Force Engaged" "Awful Carnage on Both Sides" "Alternate Successes of Both Armies" "Desperate Struggles of the Rebels and much more. War reports on the inside pages as well, with the back page having carry-over reports on the Battle of Antietam. Eight pages, light toning, nice condition.
