The best looking gold handle cane you may ever see. Plus a rare Civil War cane to James McCreery from H. McCreery Post " then under that " G. For Grand Army of the Republic , started in 1866 for veterans of the Civil War.

I would assume he was an officer and maybe his father started the post. If you civil war buffs have any info let me know. I have been collecting canes for 30 years so keep that in mind. Rare Simmons Brothers 14 k gold over lead. Handle gold presentation , marked with S in a shield , and capital "A " for solid gold , as told to me by a Simons brother collector.

Acid tested and tested with a mizar M24 professional gold tester. Photo 9 shows this gold handle next to another large handle to show how big this is. This handle feels as new with crisp engraving with no wear , feels great in your hand.

Simmons Bros made the very best and most expensive gold canes. This feels great in your hand and can be your one fine cane for use as a cane or a stand out in your cane stand. The handle is just about perfect, as I can see no larger defects but has a few micro dings or may be part of the hand chasing. Probably heavy gold over lead so it is ridged and does not bend as is the best of Simmons Brothers.

Deeply engraved and feels great in your hand very sturdy. Shaft dark mahogany hard wood that that is still shiny with a little age patina and some bumps. The ferrule is nickel and iron with very little wear , but small dings and age patina.

This can be used as a walking stick , very strong. A stand out in your cane stand. Feels great in your hand. Great present for the most discriminating cane collector or an even better present to yourself. The last photo is one of my cane stands with just gold canes to show how good these look as a collection.
