This is a Museum Quality, investment grade, Civil War Ames Manufacturing Artillery Short Sword, last year of production, 1856. This is the finest blade you will ever see, a museum quality example boasting 95% full luster, you will never find another example in this superb condition.
All proper markings are present; "Ames Mfg Co, Chicopee", U. 1856 on ricasso, inspector markings on both sides of guard, inspector marks on drag, Eagle engraved on pommel. I have been collecting 40+ years and have never seen another of these Civil War Artillery short swords in such excellent, lustrous condition.
Top it off with an Excellent scabbard, soft and supple white-buff leather belt, with frog, what appears to be remnants of a manufacturing or inspection stamp on the reverse of the belt (see photo), and two-piece locking "US" buckle, ALL ORIGINAL, ALL EQUALLY FINE CONDITION. This set is amazing, investment grade, museum quality. If I sell the pair first, this "sword-only" listing will end. If I sell this sword OR the Shell Jacket individually, the paired-listing will end.
