Nice Antique 1850 Antebellum Carte de Visite /Tintype Photo Album, Civil War

Early Antique CDV Photo Album, Antebellum, Civil War Period, EXCELLENT CONDITION!! DESCRIPTION: This is a nice example of an original antebellum/Civil War period Carte de Visite (CDV) photo album to hold THE MOST POPULAR PHOTO MEDIUM OF THE DAY. 25 pages for photos, so made to hold 50 standard size carte de visites. Measures standard CdV album size, 6 1/4" x 5 1/4" x 2 1/4 thick.

It has a fancy page in the front, and an index page in the back. NICE C de V ALBUM, WITH BEAUTIFUL EMBOSSED GOLD ON LEATHER FRONT & BACK, and also with white tacks on the front and back to protect the leather from wear. IT HAS 2 FANCY MATCHED BRASS HINGES TO HOLD IT TOGETHER. FANCIER THAN YOU WILL TYPICALLY SEE ON THESE.

Both hinges are there and in excellent condition. Binding is good, and pages, like the covers, are in excellent condition. THIS IS ALSO ESPECIALLY INTERESTING AS, ALTHOUGH EMPTY NOW, THIS APPARENTLY WAS USED TO HOLD SOMEONE'S COLLECTION OF IDENTIFIED MILITARY CIVIL WAR CdVs.

About 20 of the pages have the names of the people whose pictures were there, in pencil. Most were officers, including several Major Generals. SEVERAL HAVE DETAILED INFORMATION SUCH AS mortally wounded at White House, Va. And died in Libby Prison"; "killed while charging a Confederate battery near Gaines Mills, Va.

This is totally empty of CdVs. It could be added to your photo or photo album collection as is, or THE ALBUM CAN BE USED TO STORE PERIOD CDV'S FROM YOUR PHOTO COLLECTION.
