This is a good example of a Non Regulation Infantry Officer Sword which was one of the many imports used during the U. It is mounted with a slightly curved blade that measures 32 1/8 inches in length which shows to have been cleaned over the years, nevertheless, although faded the lovely etching does remain present. The blade is marked "SOLINGEN" on one side of the ricasso and wears the "PROVED" stamp on the other side.
The Gothic style steel guard remains nice and tight and has developed a deep rich aged patina that wonderfully accentuates the fabulous pierced work U. Eagle in the guard face. The hilt wears a fishskin covered hilt that is a little weathered particularly at the pommel but the original copper wire wrap remains secure. The metal scabbard is a bit dinged but does remain in good serviceable condition and with a lovely aged patina developed as well.
