The 7th North Carolina Volunteers was a notable combat unit taking part in 183 engagements incl heavy losses at the Battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, serving in General AP Hill's Division. Lt Andrew A Hill a young student commanded A Company, the " Iredell County Boys", and was severely wounded along with many of his men at the Battle of Gettysburg.
