Order of Queen Tamar awarded during Russian Civil War GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL
The award was intended for the German troops in the Caucasus Theater of the Great War and also German natives who had volunteered to participate in WW1 on the German side. The order was issued by the German authorities. At the time, there was fighting in the Caucasus over the control of the oil fields, and in some instances the German troop remaining in the region after the end of WWI fought against the Turks, former German allies. Later, the Georgians fought Russian Bolsheviks in trying to maintain the independence of their republic, but this of course proved futile. By 1922, Georgia had been incorporated into USSR as part of the Trans-Caucasian Federative Socialist Soviet Republic. As far as we know, fewer than 5000 of this decoration were ever made! Most were awarded to the Germans who had served in just a few small units, and the decorations were made in Weimar Germany by various companies. The example we offer is definitely original and from the period!
Made in silver; measures 71.4 mm wide, 71.5 mm tall, and weighs 37.3 grams. The decoration is in PERFECT condition. Shows attractive age toning to the silver, but no serious wear or damage of any kind.
