I sell from my Civil War Collection a Very Rare Original Civil War Bugle Marked: " KLEMM & BRO PHILAD ". It is in overall good condition for age/use it does have some normal wear small dents as to be expected for a piece of this age! The yellow cord for carrier is a replica. You don't see one of these every day! This civil war-period bugle is a single twist with a brass reinforced bell.
It is a copper bugle with brass fittings. The brass on the top of the bell is marked KLEMM & BRO. The stampings are clear - please see and enlarge pics. Where the base of the horn connects to the twist there is a brass spacer approx. Also, the tail section of the twist has a 5.50 inch long section of brass that receives a brass mouthpiece which is present.
The bugle has a small number of dings and dents in the handle, but no kinks or major dents. Nice dovetailing is present as you can see in the pictures. Company started out in Philadelphia in 1830. During the Civil War they had many Government contracts for brass instruments including military bugles.
They also manufactured other instruments during the course of their business. Bugle measures 16.5 long, bottom to top. 6 wide at the middle. The bell diameter is 5.5.
