Here is one of those accouterments that was manufactured late in the Civil War, and never issued out. It is in absolutely perfect condition with no deterioration except the fading of the black logwood dye to dark brown.
There are absolutely no markings on the piece which typically would indicate pre-1864. However we once owned several hundred of these that had the long strap cut off, and only one or two had markings. This belt is actually quite similar to the bayonet belt the army used prior to 1839, however these bridle leather ones are all Civil War. They were used to carry the M1840 Musician of the M1840 Non Commissioned Officer sword.
The slings were used with the M1826 round eagle plate with 3 hooks. Sorry, but we not have any of these on hand so plate is not included. No flaking, no cracking, no missing stitches.
