Original Spanish Civil War Fascist Nationalist Nurses Medal 1937 Siege of Bilbao. The Bilbao city council, in a plenary session on December 21, December 1940, agreed to grant the a bronze medal to those Spanish nurses or residents of the city who voluntarily provided service in "state-of-the-art hospitals or in surgical teams during a period of 6 months, and to those who have provided those same services in military hospitals, in patient rooms, operating rooms or laboratories for a period two years"; a total of only 233 medals were awarded, so one of the rarer Spanish Civil War medal to find. It bears the imperial shield of Spain bordered by the inscription ESPAÑA · UNA · GRANDE · LIBRE. The reverse is the city of Bilbao coat of arms with a border with the legend JUNE 19, 1937 and along the edge the inscription NEC POTES IN MOESTOS OMNIS ABIRE ROGOS 40. The medal is made in die-stamped bronze and measures 35.5mm in diameter.
