Anywhere in the house or as part of a Civil War or antique collection. NOT ONLY A TOP HAT BUT THE FAMOUS TALL "STOVEPIPE" STYLE MADE FAMOUS BY PRESIDENT ABRAHAM LINCOLN. He is often pictured wearing one in period photographs. Maker's name is on the top of the crown of the inside, P.
Stillman, 198 Main St, Hartford. Beaver fur on the outside is in perfect original condition. Very wide leather sweat band, typical of the period, is also complete and in PERFECT condition (often damaged or at least partially missing). Original light cardboard/paper lining is also excellent. Hat measures about 7 1/2 high overall.
No size, but head opening measures about 7 1/4" x 6 1/2" (I also measured the inner head opening circumference to be approximately 21). Brim around the outside of the head opening is 2 1/4 wide. Inner leather sweat band is extremely wide, as shown, measuring about 3 wide. Also has a typical thin 1/2 wide black silk ribbon around the crown, tied with a tiny bow on the side. From a local New England collection. This was stored very well over the years, and you just don't find them in this kind of condition.
