An authentic, large-format Vermont Civil War veteran's testimonial dated July 4, 1871. Issued to Volunteer Luther Cadue, this ornate document features intricate vignettes of "Soldier's Return, " "News from Home, " and battle honors. It bears the printed signatures of Governor John W. Stewart and Medal of Honor recipient/Adjutant General William Wells.

In the post-war years, Vermont commissioned these highly decorative certificates to provide a formal "thank you" to its returning soldiers. Luther Cadue (often spelled Cadue or Caduex in records) served in the Vermont 17th Infantry, a unit that saw heavy action in the Wilderness and Petersburg campaigns-both of which are listed on the banners at the top of this document. An elite centerpiece for any Civil War collection, Vermont state history archive, or genealogical display.

Its large scale makes it a premier wall-piece for a study or library. As a historical artifact, "upcycling" is not recommended to preserve its value.

However, it can be professionally re-mounted using acid-free materials to ensure it lasts another 150 years. Monochromatic sepia/black lithography on aged cream parchment paper.
