This product is a rare Civil War US 1863 LG&Y LAMSON GOODNOW & YALE Springfield lockplate complete. The Special Model 1861 rifle-musket (also known as the Colt Special Model 1861 or simply "Special Model 1861"), a. 58 caliber percussion rifled musket produced under contract for the Union during the Civil War.

This is a contract version based on Colt's improved design (incorporating features like a recurved hammer, flat bolster without clean-out screw, clamping barrel bands, and other refinements inspired by British Enfield patterns for better reliability and ignition). It differs from the standard Springfield Armory Model 1861 in these details. Stands for Lamson, Goodnow & Yale, a firm based in Windsor, Vermont (they operated in the former Robbins & Lawrence factory). Deliveries began in 1862 and continued through 1864, with all arms accepted by late 1864. Production during the Civil War: They completed and delivered the full contracted quantity of 50,000 Special Model 1861 rifle-muskets.
