Rare M1822 American Artillery US Officer's C. Keller Solingen Pre Civil War Sword
Rare M1822 American Artillery Officer's Sword C. A very interesting and attractive US saber & scabbard for a Mounted Officer, with a hilt in the style of the British 1822 Light Cavalry sword, but a 1796 Light Cavalry style blade with beautiful blue and gold decoration by C. Keller was also known as C. Von Keller, which suggests that this blade was made during French occupation, or for a French sword dealer.

The blade is very handsome, and has American Eagles on both sides, with Union Shields on their breasts, and ribbons in their beaks saying E Pluribus Unum and have haloes of 13 stars around their heads. There are also trophies of arms on each side, and florals, and the blue terminates in extravagant flourishes. Keller" is on one side and "Solingen on the other. The hilts are iron, in the style of the British 1822 light cavalry or artillery, with leather wrapped grips and wire bound. The scabbard is silver or nickel plated brass with two carrying rings.

Dimensions: The sword is 38.5 inches long overall. The blade is 32.5 inches long and 1.375 inches wide towards the point. The sword is in very good condition overall. The grip leather is wrinkled, possibly with age, and it is wrapped with iron wire.

The iron of the hilt is black, with some rust. The blade is about excellent overall, with beautiful blue and gold with slight rubbing along the edge. The point of the blade has some black rust staining and some very shallow pits at the point. The scabbard is bright, with several dents.
