SUPER Original Antique Antebellum Hand Tinted/Colored CURRIER & IVES PRINT, MAJOR GENERAL FRANZ SIGEL, Hero of the West. Large CURRIER & IVES PRINT. Beautiful/striking hand coloried/tinted print, from the Civil War or just after, showing him in uniform of bright tinted blue.

It is a great, large image of the general in full dress uniform, with epaullettes, sash, sword, and gauntlets (holding one gauntlet in the hand of the other). Titled "MAJOR GENERAL FRANZ SIGEL, THE HERO OF THE WEST".

Published by Currier & Ives, 162 Nassau St. Probably done during the Civil War or just afterwards. THIS IS ONE OF THE NICEST TINTING JOBS FROM THE TIME, WITH THE BOLD BLUE UNIFORM AND GOLD TRIM!! In NICE ORIGINAL PERIOD FRAME, in PARTICULARLY NICE CONDITION. EVEN STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL GLASS, WITH TINY BUBBLES VISIBLE, AND WAVY SURFACE, WHICH IS NOT OFTEN FOUND. Overall frame size is print size is approximately 12 3/8" x 16 3/8". Overall open print size is 9 3/8" x 13 3/8". Currier prints were generally printed on stone, then HAND COLORED by women employees. A VERY NEW PROCESS AT THE TIME! Has great eye appeal to decorate any 19th century period wall or collection, or a display of early prints or antique items.
