SUPPLIES TO LONGSTREET'S ARMY Confederate Letter. Jefferson County, TENN Farmer leaves a large amount of Commissary & Quarter Master Stores to Longstreet's Army. He has moved his family to VA for safety. They were left in the care of Major Hays.

Isaac Shelby reportedly has Major Hays' papers and books and He has come to Abingdon, VA concerning the supplies. 4 miles from Abingdon [VA]. Saturday afternoon Sept 3 [1864 -on reverse side of letter].

Last Feby in removing my family from my farm Burd Chuckey, Jefferson Co. Tenn I turned over to Longstreet's Army a large amt Comsy & QM Stores to Maj. Hays who I left on my place in charge of a large amt of Corn, Wheat, Cattle, Sheep, Hogs, Bacin, Waggons & Mules &c and learn that you have Major Hay's Books Papers &c. I will call to see you to Morrow Morning (Sunday) and if not inconvenient would be glad to meet you.

I have a letter from Capt. Orr of Bristol to you. Would have come in today but have a lame Horse. REVERSE side of letter: W. Shelby, Major Hays, and Capt. Thanks for looking at my auctions.
