Item: Totally Original English Civil War Harquebusier Helmet Circ 1630. This particular example is of a high quality construction and finish with line decoration and articulated neck piece suggesting its use by a Harquebusier of a high position of class. It is a peculiar English design of helmet and consists of a skull formed in two halves, the joint forming a raised comb, a tail or neck guard and a pivoted peak.
At each side are hinged cheek pieces protecting the sides of the face, the hinges with an ornate design. Again these cheek pieces are synonymous with better quality helmets. At the back is a tubular plume holder. A fine example and one which would prove difficult to upgrade on. From the English Civil War, Charles I was the last Monarch to be executed on 30th January 1649 in Whitehall London.
Would make a real conversation piece and look fantastic displayed in a bar or themed restaurant, over 390 years old, such items can be seen in museums and the Tower of London, please note the drawing of King Charles I is for period reference only. Please see my other antiquities from the English Civil War to Present Day and Royal Regalia. Condition: The helmet is in very good condition with just two shallow dents to the skull and has over the years been painted black. Maybe a gift for someone special, birthdays , christenings , all occasions, for your own collection maybe or pieces of historic interest.
