U. S. Civil War Artillery Sword Saber Model 1840 Dated 1862

Remaining in uncleaned, untouched "attic" condition, this is a good example of an U. Civil War Artillery Sword, Model 1840. It is mounted with a slightly curved blade that measures 32 3/8 inches in length. The blade remains in very nice condition with only surface staining and is marked by "AMES" on one side and is dated U. 1863 on the other side. The brass guard also remains very nice in its condition with a lovely rich aged patina now developed. The leather wrapped hilt is a bit dry and weathered with the twisted wire wrap now missing. The large metal scabbard has deeply patined as well and remains in good serviceable condition with no dings.
