U. S. Civil War Cavalry Officer Sword Saber by Sauerbier

This is a good example of a U. Civil War Cavalry Officer Sword Saber by Sauerbier. It is mounted with a lovely curved blade that measures 34 3/8 inches in length.

The blade remains in nice condition with only minor surface staining and is beautifully etched on either side, although the etching is difficult to capture in the photos and with one side a bit more faded than the other. The wonderfully detailed brass guard remains in untouched, uncleaned condition with traces of the original bright gold still present. The fishskin covered hilt is a bit weathered, nonetheless does remain tight and sturdy. Overall measuring 40 3/8 inches in length. Sadly, the scabbard has been lost along the way.
