U. S. Civil War Import Cavalry Sword Saber Model 1840 By Clemen & Jung

This is a good example of an U. Cavalry Sword, Model 1840 and is one of the many imports used during the American Civil War. This particular one is mounted with very nice curved blade that measures 35 1/2 inches in length which remains in very good condition with only some minor surface blemishes. The blade is well marked by the German maker "C&J" (Clemen & Jung) on one side of the ricasso. The multi-branched brass guard remains beautiful and has now developed a pretty aged patina.

The leather wrapped hilt also remains healthy in its condition and with its original twisted wire wrap still securely in place. The metal scabbard has now also richly aged patined and although has some working dings on either side, does remain in good serviceable condition.
