U. S. Civil War State Militia Officer Sword with Scabbard Attic Condition

This is an example of an U. State Militia Officer Sword which dates from the early to mid 19th Century. It is mounted with an etched straight blade that measures 30 3/8 inches in length which remains in untouched, uncleaned condition with a rich aged patina now developed, nevertheless the etching can still be made out. The beautifully carved bone has a pronounced chip, however remains sturdy in condition and has now wonderfully mellowed with its age.

The metal crossguard and pommel feature clam shell guard faces front and back that have also richly patined. The original metal scabbard is missing its carrying rings and has a small seam opening, but does remain in good serviceable condition fitting snuggly to the blade.
