US Civil War Era M1859 Cavalry Bit Original Reins Texas Star Rosettes on Bridle

For sale here is an amazing piece of history. The set includes an original US Civil War M1859 Bit with chain, black leather bridle with Brass Texas Star Rosettes, and original black leather reins.

Interestingly, the entire bit, including the rosettes appears to be made of brass including the rein rings. I could not find another example like this in my research. The chain is silver and shows age and use.

The bit and rosettes show quite a bit of use and wear and have a nice mellow and even patina. The Texas Star Bridle Rosettes also show this even and mellow deep patina.

All of the black leather is strong and fairly supple, but it is OLD and does show age, use, wear, light mildew, and surface cracking and finish loss. I don't know if i would use it as is, but you might be able to.

It all feels strong enough to give it a try. The top strap of the bridle has the numbers 44 and 57 scratched into it. Where the Texas rosettes are attached there is plenty of old green goo from the leather reacting with the brass.

The reins are tied in a knot, and i have not tried to undo this. The bridle has a mix of steel, black painted steel, and shiny steel buckle components.

These metal components all show wear, age, use, patina, and finish loss. I would guess that this is probably an Indian Wars rig based on the mixed Texas star and US rosettes. There are no maker markings anywhere to be found on the leather or metal pieces. This is as cool and as complete as you are likely to find.

I would also love to hear your thoughts on this piece. This will make a great addition to your collection. Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have. Please take a look at my other great items!
