US Civil War Model 1840 Ames Type I Artillery Sword-Saber withScabbard-Dated 1855

US Civil War Model 1840 Ames Mfg Co. Type I Artillery Sword with Scabbard. The ricasso is marked "Ames Mfg Co" over "Chicopee" and "Mass" on one side and "US" over "JH" over a faint but readable "1855" on the other. The grip and guard are tight, the leather wrap is complete but almost all of the wire wrap is missing, just a little remains by the pommel, also the cap is faintly marked "JH".

The blade has not been sharpened and it has age spots scattered throughout. The scabbard is solid and it has minor scattered surface rust throughout.

The leather washer is missing. Length of the blade is 32" (1 5/16" wide and 3/8" thick), the sword is 37 1/2", and in the scabbard it is 38 1/2.
