US Civil War Model 1852 Naval Officers Sword with Leather Scabbard. The ricasso is marked Ames MFG. The brass guard and sharkskin have a slight wiggle, the grip is 99% complete only losses are where the seam is located, and the twisted brass wire is complete. The etched blade is straight, light age spots throughout, minor pitting only at the middle 6" of the blade, has been sharpened, the tip is sharp and the blade has some surface rust at the last 5" toward the tip. The backside of the scabbard throat has Ames MFG.
Chicopee Mass stamped on it. The leather scabbard is broken into 2 pieces and the leather has shrunk a bit so the lower portion comes up about a 1/4 short of meeting the upper portion when placed onto the sword. At some point, somebody tried to repair the scabbard break with glue so there is some remnants of that on the edges of the damaged areas, see picture #12. The backside of the drag is missing the screw. Length of the blade is 28 7/8" (1 1/16" wide x 5/16" thick), length of the sword is 34 5/8", and overall in the scabbard it is 35 1/4.
