Post US Civil War Model 1860 Staff & Field Presentation Sword with Scabbard. Ricasso is marked Ames Mfg.
The guard, grip, and pommel cap are tight. The grip shows some wear and minor shrinkage, it is 98% complete. The twisted wire is almost completely gone, only about 10% remains (a small piece by the pommel cap and another small piece down by the guard). The double clamshell has the typical eagle with flags on it on one side and on the folding side is a shield with crossed cannons, and swords. Is intact but not functioning.
The etched blade is bright, clean, straight, unsharpened, no nicks along the edges and the tip is sharp. The scabbard is solid with no dents, it has an even light surface rust color throughout almost the entire scabbard surface, and the drag has a star on one side. Length of the blade measures 29" (5/8" wide x 1/4" thick), length of the sword is 34 7/8", and overall in the scabbard it is 36 9/16. Check out my other War items!!
