US Civil War Model 1860 Whistle Presentation Staff & Field Sword with Scabbard. Ricasso marked The Pettibone Bros. O" and on the other side is the walking bear stamp which supposedly stands for Abraham Kuller Zu Wald, he was a Solingen sword maker active from 1847 to 1880, so this blade was most likely imported, it is also etched "US in the background. The guard, grip, and pommel cap do wiggle just a bit. The grip is 97% complete, there are a couple small splits to the sharkskin, and the twisted wire wrap is 100% complete.
The double clamshell has the typical eagle with flags on it on one side and on the folding side is a shield with crossed cannons, swords, and rifle. The quillon has the whistle, it works and is loud.
The etched blade is straight, unsharpened, and has scattered age spots throughout but mainly on the lower half of the blade where it has a bit of surface rust also. The scabbard is solid, it does have 3 small dents that look like sword hits, has scattered age spots throughout, and overall it is bowed/bent (the sword itself is not), it makes the sword fit tightly so maybe it was intentional to prevent rattling.
The drag has 3 stars on one side, 1 big and 2 small. Length of the blade measures 31 7/8", length of the sword is 38 3/4", and overall in the scabbard it is 40 7/8. Check out my other War items!!
