Very Nice U. S. CIVIL War Staff And Field Presentation Grade Officer Sword

This very nice and well made U. Civil War Foot Officer's Sword is a Model 1850 and was manufactured by the famous Sword maker H. Sauerbier as marked on the ricasso. It is mounted with a blade that measures 31 3/4 inches in length which is wonderfully etched in a floral motif with a large US on one side and a Panoply of Arms on the other side.

The blade has a few small surface pitting scars, nevertheless remains very nice. The beautiful brass guard is intricately detailed with pierced work which includes a pierced "US" which has now developed a lovely deep, aged patina. The leather covered hilt has survived in very healthy condition with the original twisted wire wrap still nicely in place and the entire guard remaining very sturdy and tight. Overall measuring 37 inches in length.
