Offered is an original, historic, & collectible old newspaper: DAILY DISPATCH---EXTRA, Richmond, Virginia, July 5, 1863. Battle of Gettysburg Very rare Confederate title Capital of the Confederacy. A great rarity: a Confederate broadside "Extra" reporting on the first two days of the historic Battle of Gettysburg.

As the word "broadside" is defined, this is a single sheet printed on the front side only. The heads at the top of the first column head: " Latest From The North " " Great Battle At Gettysburg " with subheads: The Yankees Claim Not To Be Defeated and To Have Captured 6,000 Prisoners--The Confederates Hold The Field--Yankee Generals Reynolds and Paul Killed--Heavy Loss of the Federals--The Grand Battle Expected Friday, etc. " This reporting takes 3 of the 4 columns, with subheads including: "The First Day's Battle" "The Second Day's Fighting" "The Fighting on Thursday--Further Particulars Gen.

Reynolds Killed" "A Rebel Brigade Captured. Also in this issue are: "Latest From Vicksburg--Explosion Of A Mine" "Dispatch From Rosecrans Announcing the Occupation of Tullahoma" "The Very Latest" which includes 2 more items concerning Gettysburg; and: Gen. Taylor's Operations In Louisiana. Any Civil War broadside extra is rare, but are extremely desirable if covering a major battle and from the Confederacy. Measures 10 1/4 by 16 inches, some foxing at the margins, toning evidence indicates this piece was once matted & framed for display.
