Very Rare, H-U-G-E Fancy Classic Oval Antebellum Walnut Frame, c. PLEASE EXCUSE THE LIGHT REFLECTION OFF THE FRAME GLASS IN MY PHOTOS!
This is a very nice and HUGE version of a classic antebellum - Civil War period wooden frame. Typical classic oval period design, manufacture, and style, with nice aged patina.
Has original gold mat, original glass, and original thin wood backing board. Also has a "support board" attached to the backing board to set on a board attached to the wall, to help support the weight of the frame. Similar to others of the style and period, typically most popular from 1840 - 1850, BUT THE LARGEST EXAMPLE OF THIS TYPE OF FRAME THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. Probably the largest that you have seen or ever will see in the future, so a rare opportunity to find something like this.
As indicated, this style is very early and could actually predate the Civil War, c. Certainly of the period and definitely not be any later than the Civil War. This was likely in a grand, large estate or even public building, holding important content, like a large portrait or engraving. Right now it contains a print of a tapestry.
You can obviously put anything you want in it. WOULD BE VERY APPROPRIATE FOR A LARGE MIRROR OR A LARGE ANTEBELLUM PORTRAIT OR A LARGE CIVIL WAR MILITARY ENGRAVING. Frame is huge, measuring 29 1/2" x 23"overall on the outside, with a 25" x 19" overall inner opening. Measurements are of the wooden frame itself, and do not take into consideration the gold inner rim and paper matte sizes. This item is in the category "Collectibles\Militaria\Civil War (1861-65)\Original Period Items\Other Civil War Original Items".
