Vintage Cold War Relic Office of Civil Defense Metal Drinking Water Drum Barrel

Neat piece of history from the Cold War Era. These barrels were provided by the Office of Civil Defense of the Department of Defense to be used as water storage in nuclear bomb shelters across the country. The directions on the side also indicate how it can be used as a commode once the water has been used, in the event that people were spending an extended period in a nuclear shelter.

The drum measures about 22.25" tall and 16.75" in diameter. Condition is as seen in photos. Scratches, rust spots, missing paint, etc. As far as I can tell, the rust is all just surface rust. I don't see any rust holes or feel any weakened spots.

I have not opened the container to see the inside (that involves prying off the lid, and I don't want to damage it). But based on the instructions, it was probably used with a liner, so any water stored inside it would not have made contact with the drum itself.
