Very Rare FULL Antique Leather Padded GEM SIZE TINTYPE Photo Album, Tiny Civil War Period Pictures, MOSTLY IDENTIFIED!! DESCRIPTION: This is a VERY SPECIAL EXAMPLE of a classic original small Antebellum/Civil War/Victorian period gem size tintype photo album. Gem size albums were often used by children for friends or school mates, etc. Sort of a 1850 version of the modern school yearbook. Also used by families, as indicated by this one. Loaded with men, women, and a variety of cute young children! This is a nice standard size gem album, containing. 12 pages, with room for 4 standard gem size tintype photos per page......
For a total capacity of 48 gems. THIS ONE HAS ONLY 4 EMPTY PHOTO OPENINGS, SO IS STILL CONSIDERED FULL. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE SO FULL!
Even more special, many of the pictures, almost 20, are identified by name!!! THIS IS RARELY SEEN IN ANY ALBUM, AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN A GEM ALBUM WITH IDENTIFICATIONS. It is a great piece for your collection of albums/photos!! NICE RED LEATHER EMBOSSED PATTERN ON THE FRONT & BACK COVERS, gold trimmed pages and trim. Brass latch is missing as they often are.
